Memo from Dr. William R. Nye, Jr.
Regarding: Athletic Field Turf
All,
I have received many inquiries as to how we are funding the athletic field turf project. I am writing this memo to help explain the initiative we are undertaking.
1. We recently paid off the Athletic Stadium Complex from a loan that was originated over 18 years ago. That loan was for approximately 1.5 million dollars. The annual payment was approximately $117,000 and was paid out of Permanent Improvement Funds.
2. We were approved by the State for ESSER Grant Funds in the amount of $449,731 for new field turf to use for athletics, community events, and school classrooms.
3. We went out to bid and received competitive quotes from several vendors for athletic field turf.
4. We accepted a bid of $1,141,247. Work can commence as soon as April 15, 2024, and is projected to be finished by August 2, 2024.
5. We went out to finance for the remainder of the funds totaling $691,516. This amount is calculated by taking the bid of $1,141,247 and subtracting out the $449,731 from the ESSER Grant. The loan will be for 10 years, and the anticipated annual payment is approximately $95,000. This is roughly $22,000 less than what we were paying annually each year for the Stadium Complex.
6. We will make this payment out of Permanent Improvement Funds.
7. We have applied for the NFL Grass Roots Grant. If we are awarded funds, we can receive up to $250,000.
8. We have a stadium sponsor (Reel’s Family Auto), and a field sponsor (Colebrook Elevator), that will generate annual revenue of $20,000 which will be placed in the fund for field turf expenses.
9. There are other donors that have contributed one-time funds, and others that will contribute annually. These funds will be placed in the field turf fund also.
10. Nothing from our General Operating Fund is being used for the new field turf. This initiative would not be possible without the ESSER Grant and a plethora of generous community donors.
If you have any questions, feel free to call my office at 440-805-4545, Option 4, Option 1.
Sincerely,
Dr. William R. Nye Jr.
